Shokz has been instrumental in developing Open-Ear technology for the consumer electronics industry, recognizing the need for situational awareness in modern society. Shokz engineers were among the first to realize the potential of bone conduction technology for situational awareness, but they also acknowledged that there was still much room for progress in medical bone conduction technology at that time. In order to achieve good sound quality in our products, the engineers took a novel approach to improve the audio quality of the earbuds. By modifying the transducer and adding vibration components such as springs, they created a more immersive and dynamic audio experience.

Our engineers also drew inspiration from daily routines. They discovered that when brushing teeth at an inclined angle, the sound is transmitted through teeth and the temporal bone with little vibration. Leveraging this insight, they placed the transducer on the skin at a 30-degree angle. This adjustment increased the contact area and reduced vibration, resulting in the development of Shokz PremiumPitch 2.0+. When Shokz engineers observed how motor vehicle mufflers and tailpipes incorporate holes in their design to reduce noise, it sparked an idea: could this same principle be applied to earbuds to reduce sound leakage? Taking a unique approach, the engineers developed Leakslayer technology, which later led to the creation of Shokz DirectPitch technology.

DirectPitch^TM is essentially a technology that realizes sound transmission in a specific direction or uneven sound pressure distribution based on the principle of acoustic superposition. It is a major breakthrough made by Shokz in the development of Open-Ear earbuds and is applied to Shokz's new TWS series of earbuds. Its principle is to optimize the distance and angle between the sound source and the human ear, and reducing the leakage of sound radiated to the outside world by using anti-phase sound waves, so that the sound pressure towards the human ear is relatively higher, while the sound pressure towards other directions is relatively lower. This enables listeners to hear the sound without earbuds inserted into ear canals and also has the advantage of reducing sound leakage and ensuring privacy, thus solving a big problem in sound leakage of air conduction earbuds.
