Expert Reviews

“AfterShokz OpenComm come into their own for those that need to hear digital audio for long periods without discomfort and need a microphone to communicate freely. They’re significantly nicer to wear for a prolonged session and almost entirely devoid of the soreness that in-ear designs and cans can generate.”
This Aftershokz headset really is the ultimate Bluetooth integrated headphones and mic set for working from home - especially if you have to keep an ear out for the kids or the front door while you’re on a call or listening in. They’re honestly so light and comfortable that chances are you’ll forget you’re wearing them!
They’re great for speech so they work very well as a headset for making calls, with good noise reduction. These also have multipoint-Bluetooth pairing, so you can pair them with your phone and PC and easily switch to your phone if a call comes in while you’re on your computer.

Great design. Should use a better material.

The charge port popped out, maybe due to the swollen battery.
That's not my first time encounter this. My previous one had the same problem, and current one is warranty-replaced. The average time of occurrence is half an year.
Sadly my warranty expired, cuz the sole agent in Taiwan provides only one year warranty.
Perfect experience while it works fine though.

Great headphones - does not play nice with Microsoft teams though

I love shokz products and the headphones are so easy to wear the whole day - I work in IT and this is important for me. The problem is though, a recent update to MS teams had rendered them unusable for me. When you press mute on teams, you get an annoying busy tone every 10 seconds on the headphones which does not occur on a wired headset. I'm not sure but I believe this is due to a teams update.
Contacting Shokz support, they try to help but suggest using Zoom and other solutions that do not fix the problem fully. They also suggested the UC dongle might work which I need to purchase separately - come on Shokz you can do better than this :)
Although I don't blame Shokz per se as this is probably outside of their control they do need to work with Microsoft to come up with a solution together as its ultimately customers who will refrain from using and buying these. I'm going back to wired headphones reluctantly and suggest anybody using teams to think seriously about this issue.

Must get a physical mute button! It's very good and just needs to be polished a bit to be excellent.

Yes, a physical mute button is a must for a product that's made for mobile calls. Really uncomfortable to fiddle with the phone all the time to mute/unmute. This will earn it 5 stars.

It could also be a louder. I use it in the car and I struggle to hear the caller sometimes.

Other than that, it's VERY good. With the mute button, it would be unbeatable.

Better voice quality but still not good enough

Bought these as openrun pro has such poor Voice quality.

The problem is the mic boom still does not place the microphone in front of the mouth, which is really necessary in noisy environments.

And then finally, there should be noise cancelling mics not only on the mic boom but also on each ear. This way as much noise is removed as possible.

I take calls on the go beside busy roads where the wind and elements are always present. This is a real life evaluation.

Brilliant! only one issue

I have been using this product for almost a year with Microsoft and Apple products and it is brilliant for sound quality, microphone and charging time. I hope there is an app to reprogram the buttons' functionality, check what is connected and set the preference when receiving a call or listening to music!

Looking forward to the next edition of this product with enhanced conduction!

Manuals/Guides

① These numbers are given by electronic engineers who conducted tests under controlled laboratory conditions. Battery life depends on multiple factors including device settings, environment, usage, etc.
Testing conducted by Shokz using OpenComm produced in September 2020 paired with iPhone X (iOS 13.7). The test environment temperature was 25℃ with 320-kbps MP3 white noise played at a volume set to around 68% of the maximum volume (The A-weighted sound pressure level was 66.7±1.0dBA, measured 10mm from the face of the transducers with the headset hung in the air).
Testing consisted of full OpenComm battery discharge while playing audio until the headset stopped playback. The duration time is counted as the listening time of the headset. The test result shows that the OpenComm has a listening time of up to 8 hours.
Testing consisted of full OpenComm battery discharge while the test person spoke at a normal volume (the sound pressure level was 90dBA, measured 10cm from the mouth) for a certain period of time and the speakers were not working. The average power consumption of the headset was measured by the DC power analyzer. Based on the calculation between average power consumption and battery capacity, OpenComm has a talk time of up to 16 hours.
Testing consisted of full OpenComm battery discharge while OpenComm was powered on without any operation. The average power consumption of the headset was measured by the DC power analyzer. Based on the calculation between average power consumption and battery capacity, OpenComm has a standby time of up to 14 days.
In actual use, battery life depends on device settings, environment, usage, and many other factors.
②OpenComm can withstand moderate sweat, rain, and dust exposure in a non-water environment. OpenComm was tested under controlled laboratory conditions and has a rating of IP55 under IEC standard 60529. Water-resistance is not a permanent condition and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Please do not submerge or expose the frames for an extended period to water or any drinks.
